The major challenges confronting Europe and the rest of the world impel us to look outwards after a necessary period of internal renewal. Pray for all the Churches of Europe, and those of other faiths, and pray that CEC may find its proper vocation of service for the churches in this new context as it did of old half a century ago. The situation is not the same as in 1914, or indeed 1939, but the imperative for the Churches to work in the spirit of the seventh Beatitude remains:
‘Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.’ (Matt. 5. 9)
