The Conference of European Churches has released a short video from its 5th CEC Summer School on Human Rights, bringing into sharp focus the topic of freedom of religion or belief, theology and populism in Europe.

The Summer School was held from 8 to 12 July 2018 in Málaga, Spain.

The video features impressions from the event participants representing Christian, Muslim and Jewish faiths. Discussions were held on the role of religion in Europe in context of increasing influence of populist politics, defined as the resurgence of far-right and left-wing political parties.

“Religious pluralism is indissociable from and indispensable for democratic societies. It requires an unambiguous commitment to Freedom of Religion and Belief on the side of the state, but also mutual respect and support on the side of religious and belief communities,” says the core message issued at the 5th Summer School.

The event was organised by CEC in cooperation with the Ecumenical Centre in Los Rubios, Spanish Evangelical Church and Otto per Mille in Italy.
