EU Policy and Legislation

image014In cooperation with the Protestant Church in Germany (EKD) Brussel’s office, CEC carries out monitoring and action on EU policy and legislation. The Thematic Reference Group for this area provides a forum for discussion and exchange of information on current legal and political matters emerging from the European Institutions. It deliberates on a range of topics including church-state law, fundamental rights, dialogue between the EU and churches, employment law, and other relevant matters.

    An estimated 800,000 women, men, and children are victims of human trafficking within the EU today. The EU and its member states urgently need to implement the legal framework already in place and to intensify cooperation with civil society and church organisations that work with victims at the grassroots level. This was one of the main messages of the Dialogue Seminar organised by COMECE and the Church and Society Commission of CEC in cooperation with CCME in dialogue with the EU Commission on 27 November.

    Press Release: CEC response to the proposed EU climate change policy for 2030

    The Conference of European Churches urges the European Council ‘to be more ambitious in their final decision when shaping EU climate and energy policies’. This is underlined in the letter that has been sent by CEC to the EU decision makers in view of the upcoming meeting of the European Council, which should adopt decisions on the future shape of EU climate policies up to 2030.

    The Conference of European Churches congratulates Jean-Claude Juncker on his appointment as the newly elected President of the European Commission.

    Yesterday, on 15th July, Jean-Claude Juncker, the former Prime Minister of Luxembourg was elected as the President of the new European Commission by the European Parliament in a secret ballot with 422 votes in his favour. The Conference of European Churches congratulates the newly elected President on his appointment.

    Contribution to Consultation on Working Time Directive

    The CALL network has participated in a European Commission consultation on the revision of the EU Working Time Directive. Over the last four years, CALL has worked on questions related to precarious work and defining a concept of good work. These reflections enabled CALL to submit an informed response to the questionnaire to the European Commission.
