Governing Board

image007A 20 member Governing Board meets twice annually to oversee the implementation of the decisions of the Assembly (link to Assembly Page).

The new Governing Board of the Conference of European Churches (CEC) chose the Anglican Bishop of Guildford, the Rt. Rev. Christopher Hill as the President of CEC at its first meeting on 8 July 2013. Very Rev. Karin Burstrand, the Dean of Gothenburg in the Church of Sweden is one of the two vice-presidents along with His Emminence Metropolitan Emmanuel of France.

The new CEC Constitution approved on 7 July 2013 established the Governing Board as our main governing body. Please click here for a PDF version of the Standing Orders of the current CEC Governing Board.

In the performance of its functions, the Governing Board may issue public statements (click here for a PDF version of our guidelines for public statements) on an issue or concern with which the Governing Board or its constituent churches may be confronted. While such statements may have great significance and influence as the expression of the judgment or concern of so widely representative a Christian body in Europe, their authority will consist only in the weight which they carry by their own truth and wisdom. The issuance of such statements shall not imply that the Conference of European Churches as such has, or can have, any constitutional authority over the constituent churches or right to speak for them.
