    Human Enhancement: promises and realities Churches warn but do not reject

    From 25-27 April 2012, around 50 representatives mainly from European churches but also from other religions and the fields of politics, ethics, and science, met in Brussels to discuss the subject of human enhancement. The conference was organized by the Church and Society Commission (CSC) of the Conference of European Churches (CEC), a platform in which a range of Christian denominations in Europe work together. A common workshop with STOA at the European Parliament, brought together around one hundred participants.

    Christian and Muslim leaders of Cyprus committed to promoting dialogue

    “We ask you, therefore, to exercise your influence so that the religious freedom becomes a reality for all people of Cyprus, Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots” appealed His Beatitude Chrysostomos II, the Archbishop of Cyprus, speaking in a seminar on the theme “An ongoing need for freedom of religion or belief in Cyprus” on 5 October 2012 in Nicosia, Cyprus.

    EU Commissoner Andor:  Churches are crucial partners in combating poverty

    In June 2010, the European Council set the target of taking 20 million people out of poverty by 2020. What is necessary to meet this ambitious target? - In a dialogue seminar with the European Commission, the Churches in Europe expressed their commitment to intensify their cooperation with the European Union to combat poverty and social exclusion. They expressed their interest in actively participating in the work of the European Platform against poverty which is being set up by the EU.
