CEC president congratulates Metropolis of Belgium on its 50th Anniversary

13 November, 2019

“It was a great honour to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the Metropolis of Belgium, and be among those receiving the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew in Belgium,” said president of the Conference of European Churches (CEC) Rev. Christian Krieger.

“On behalf of CEC, we wish the Metropolis of Belgium a blessed anniversary and hope for continued strengthened relations between CEC and the Ecumenical Patriarchate,” he added.

Rev. Krieger made these comments following his participation at the opening of the Golden Jubilee celebration event of the Metropolis of Belgium held on 9 November 2019 in Brussels.

The celebration featured a special visit of the Ecumenical Patriarch to the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg as part of the celebrations of the 50th Anniversary of the Orthodox Archdiocese of Belgium and Exarchate of the Netherlands and Luxembourg.

Since the foundation of the Orthodox Archdiocese, the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew’s visit to the Metropolis is the first visit after 25 years.

Among those who participated in the celebrations in Brussels included CEC executive secretaries Rev. Dr Peter Pavlovic, Ms Katerina Pekridou and Dr Elizabeta Kitanovic.
