CEC president conveys greetings on Orthodox Easter

27 April, 2021

Rev. Christian Krieger, president of the Conference of European Churches (CEC) has conveyed special greetings to CEC Orthodox Member Churches, celebrating Easter on 2 May this year, following the Julian calendar. “Together with our Orthodox brothers and sisters, once again, we celebrate Christ’s resurrection – the foundation of Christian hope and joy,” he said.

“In challenging times that we live in, it is significant to remember that Christ’s death upon the cross is a victory. Christ’s resurrection is a testimony that God’s love is stronger than evil and death. Because Christ is risen, we need no longer to be afraid of dark or evil forces in this world,” said Krieger.

“Let us remember our Orthodox faithful brothers and sisters proclaiming each year at the Paschal Resurrection service in the words St. John Chrysostom: ‘Let no one fear death, for the death of our Saviour has set us free! Christ is risen and the angels rejoice!’” he added.
