European Green Deal: Preserving our Common Home

29 January, 2020

CEC participated in the Dialogue Seminar on “European Green Deal: Preserving our Common Home” held at the European Parliament in Brussels.

The seminar on 28 January was part of the Article 17 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU (TFEU) hosted by Mairead McGuinness MEP, Vice-President, responsible for the Article 17 Dialogue.

“Protection of environment, impacts of climate change and care for sustainable development is an intrinsic part of Christian faith,” said CEC Study Secretary Rev. Dr Peter Pavlovic, who presented in a session on “contributions of faith and philosophical representatives.”

“Churches’ commitment to the values of responsibility and justice is not limited to theological studies, ethical considerations and prayers, but to concrete activities such as support, motivation, networking, sharing good practices and reduction of ecological footprints. To support such activities, the European Christian Environmental Network (ECEN) works closely with the European churches,” he added.

He also shared how European Green Deal as well as all other efforts to tackle climate change are strongly supported by the churches.

Ecological and social concerns must not be separated. Consideration about radical transformation, which is at the core of the Green Deal, includes social impacts, ethical and human aspects that needs to get priority attention,” he added.
