COMECE and CEC: “Churches have an important message and value to add to the Conference on the Future of Europe”
CEC and the Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Union (COMECE) addressed a letter to the newly appointed members of the Executive Board of the Conference on the Future of Europe on 8 April 2021, advocating for the integration of churches in the Conference Plenary as distinct key stakeholders, in line with Article 17 TFEU.

Following the signing of the joint declaration in March, officially setting up the Conference on the Future of Europe, the Conference of European Churches (CEC) General Secretary Dr Jørgen Skov Sørensen expressed appreciation for the move, anticipating strong contribution from the European churches.

European churches express concern over French draft law related to Islamic radicalism
In a letter to the French government, CEC expressed deep concern over the draft law introduced to fight Islamic radicalism in the country. CEC, together with its Member Churches in France, while recognising the need to counter extremism, pointed out the damaging effect the law can inflict on law abiding religious communities. CEC stressed the need for the government to engage further with religious leaders.
