    The Conference of European Churches congratulates Jean-Claude Juncker on his appointment as the newly elected President of the European Commission.

    Yesterday, on 15th July, Jean-Claude Juncker, the former Prime Minister of Luxembourg was elected as the President of the new European Commission by the European Parliament in a secret ballot with 422 votes in his favour. The Conference of European Churches congratulates the newly elected President on his appointment.

    As a service to Member Churches wishing to promote an active, democratic and responsible participation in European Affairs, the CEC-CSC Working Group on Education produced a set of postcards portraying a vision of Europe as it could be and linking its preoccupations and concerns directly to the Christian ethos.

    CCME 19th General Assembly

    The 19th General Assembly of the Churches’ Commission for Migrants in Europe ended on Sunday 29th June. In their final message, delegates from across Europe called for “a change of attitudes regarding migration in accordance with European values.” The message highlights that this “includes secure and legal access to Europe for those in need of protection”.

    CCME Press Release: Ecumenical European meeting on “Crossing borders – at what price?”

    The 19th General Assembly of the Churches’ Commission for Migrants in Europe (CCME) started on 26 June at the Sigtuna Foundation. The Church of Sweden and the Christian Council of Sweden, the two Swedish member organisations in CCME, are hosting the event in Sigtuna. One of the issues discussed on the opening day is how the churches can influence European countries to take greater responsibility for the refugee crises in our vicinity.

    Press Release: Commemorate Persons who lost their lives on their way to seek safety

    The Assembly of the Conference of European Churches held in Budapest in July 2013 has renewed the call on churches to “to commemorate those who have died on their journey to find a dignified life in Europe through an annual day of prayer.”
