    Church and society secretaries meet in Strasbourg

    From 16 to 18 November secretaries responsible for European affairs met in Strasbourg (France) for an annual meeting. More than two-dozen participants from across Europe gathered to discuss church and society issues and learn more about the role of the Council of Europe in conflicts and reconciliation.

    Overnight a series of gun and bomb attacks left at least 120 dead in the French capital, and countless more injured. The Conference of European Churches grieves the loss of life and mourns with all those affected by this enormous tragedy.

    Religious freedom and cultural heritage in Cyprus: Working for unity in a divided land

    On 10 November religious and political representatives gathered at the European Parliament to discuss religious freedom in the Republic of Cyprus. The well-attended seminar was held at the invitation of Dr Eleni Theocharous MEP in cooperation with the Representation of the Church of Cyprus to the European Institutions and the Conference of European Churches.

    Fr Heikki Huttunen named CEC General Secretary

    The Conference of European Churches is pleased to announce the appointment of Fr Heikki Huttunen, Orthodox Church of Finland, to the position of General Secretary. Fr Huttunen comes to the role with a wealth of ecumenical experience and a lifelong commitment to youth in the Church, at one time serving Syndesmos, the international youth organisation of the Orthodox Church.
