Strengthening relations with churches in Scotland

26 February, 2020

To strengthen relations and deepen engagement over common concerns in Europe, CEC President Rev. Christian Krieger together with CEC Governing Board Member Rev. Alison McDonald visited CEC Member Churches, the Scottish Episcopal Church and the Church of Scotland.

The visit last week was a first since the Scottish Episcopal Church renewed its membership with CEC in 2017.

The delegation was welcomed by Rt Rev. John Armes, Bishop of Edinburgh, who underlined the importance of CEC membership as a way of expressing European belonging. They also met the Ecumenical Officer of the Church of Scotland, Rev. Dr John McPake and Convener of the Ecumenical Relations Committee Rev. Sandy Horsburgh, as well as others involved with the work of CEC.

“It is encouraging to witness how church leaders in Scotland are affirming their strong commitment to their European identity. I welcome with gratitude their commitment towards European identity, as well as their support to CEC working towards this vision, especially with the Council of Europe,” said Rev. Christian Krieger.
