    CEC and COMECE presidents meet with EP President Metsola to discuss key European issues

    H. Em. Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich SJ and Rev. Christian Krieger, presidents of the Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Union (COMECE) and of the Conference of European Church (CEC) met with the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola on Wednesday 29 June 2022 to discuss the final report of the Conference on the Future of Europe (CoFoE), as well the ongoing war in Ukraine and the implementation of the Article 17 Treaty on the Functioning of the EU (TFEU).

    CEC trains Italian churches in the security and safety of religious communities

    The Conference of European Churches (CEC) organised a training for its Member Churches in Italy, addressing security and safety risks, threats, and challenges in the country. The training was held on 24 June in Rome, as part of the Safer and Stronger Communities in Europe (SASCE) project, carried out by CEC, and funded by the Internal Police Fund of the European Commission.

    European churches look forward to highlight their concerns in European institutions

    The CEC General Secretary Dr Jørgen Skov Sørensen commended the EU-initiated Conference on the Future of Europe. However, he stressed that European churches and faith-based communities would have liked to see their concerns, especially related to freedom of religion and belief, featured in the final report that articulates results from the CoFoE.

    CEC participates in high-level Ukrainian interreligious delegation meeting

    Ms Katerina Pekridou, CEC Executive Secretary for theological dialogue participated in a meeting of high-level delegation of religious leaders from Ukraine, who visited the secretariat of COMECE in Brussels, and exchanged with representatives of EU Churches and religious communities on perspectives for peace in their war-torn country and ways to support the Ukrainian population.

    CEC trains Finnish churches to ensure safer and stronger communities

    The Conference of European Churches, together with the Orthodox Church of Finland held a briefing and training for the church leaders and the church staff on the protection of the worship places on 8 June. The event was held as part of the project Safer and Stronger Communities in Europe (SASCE) funded by the European Commission Internal Police Fund, and the training was conducted by CEC Executive Secretary for Human Rights Dr Elizabeta Kitanovic.
