CEC at 16th Steering Committee on Bioethics in Strasbourg

27 November, 2019

CEC participated in the meeting of the 16th Steering Committee on Bioethics, an intergovernmental working group of the Council of Europe, held on 19 November in Strasbourg.

One of the main topics discussed in the meeting was the presentation of a draft of a new Strategic Action Plan for the coming years. More cooperation and communication with stakeholders and a focus on governance, equity and Integrity are the main issues in the Strategic Plan.

CEC Executive Secretary Rev. Sören Lenz, who represents CEC at the Council of Europe, welcomed the work of the Committee. “This new strategic plan will be very inspiring for the work of our new Thematic Group on Science, New Technologies and Christian Ethics. It contains several points which we can use as landmarks for the future direction of our work at CEC."

“We need the dialogue with this intergovernmental body which allows us to participate in the international debate with an exceptional expertise in the field of Biomedicine and Ethics.”

“The future is crowdsourcing, a way to have the best results through sharing opinions and points of view. Christian Ethics are always shaped in discussion and exchange,” added Rev. Lenz.
