6 February, 2023

After the devastating earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria, CEC in a letter to His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, and Dr Michel Abs, General Secretary of the Middle East Council of Churches, conveyed “deep sorrow” offering prayers for all those affected.

“Europe Christians are remembering and praying for those who have died and for those who have survived to rebuild their devastated communities and families,” said CEC General Secretary Dr Jørgen Skov Sørensen in the letter.

“We mourn your losses with you and hold you in our prayers always to the one loving and merciful God. May God bring you consolation and invest you with hope and courage to face the daunting task of healing and reconstruction.”

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Turkey and Syria at this very difficult time as you seek to help the injured and the bereaved and give shelter to the homeless,” read the letter.
