Prayer for peace following attacks in France and Vienna

4 November, 2020

Following recent attacks in France and Vienna, CEC is offering the following prayer for peace. In his respective letters to the churches in France and Austria, CEC President Rev. Christian Krieger expressed deep sorrow on these acts of violence, conveying solidarity with the churches.

He stressed that churches in Europe remain committed to the promotion of peace and the building of hospitable, inclusive societies.

The following prayer manifests remembrance of lost lives and the affected.

Make Me an Instrument of Your Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.

Where there is hatred, let me sow love;

where there is injury, pardon;

where there is doubt, faith;

where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light;

and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;

to be understood as to understand;

to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;

it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;

and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen

– St. Francis of Assisi
