7th Summer School on Human Rights [Webinars]

The Conference of European Churches will hold its 7th Summer School on Human Rights, conducting online webinars from 7 to 10 July 2020 on “Challenges for Human Rights in the times of COVID–19”.

Due to COVID–19 the Summer School, which was planned to take place in Berlin is transformed into an online form taking into consideration the current circumstance.

CEC is organising the online Summer School together with the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) and with support from the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain.

The keynote speakers will include Bishop Petra Bosse-Huber from EKD and Metropolitan Emmanuel of France from Ecumenical Patriarchate, among other presenters from across Europe.

A number of topics will be discussed in the webinars, such as challenges faced by CEC Member Churches regarding freedom of religion or belief and other fundamental rights in the context of COVID-19, training on reporting hate crime using Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) mechanism, rights of minorities during COVID-19, and experiences of young people.

A complete list of speakers and the themes they will explore is now available.

The webinars will feature a number of case studies and country reports.

The participants will come from CEC Member Churches, both lay and ordained, theologians, scholars, church practitioners, members of other religious communities, and young people and students, who will be invited through special invitations.

The CEC Summer School on Human Rights is held each year since 2013 with objectives to raise awareness and to enhance the personal and professional skills and expertise of its participants.
