Rev. Christian Krieger, president of the Conference of European Churches, visited western Ukraine in April, where he met with Bishop Pavlo Shvarts of the German Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ukraine as well as other Ukrainian church leaders responding to humanitarian and spiritual needs.

European church leaders send letter to Putin and Zelenskyy calling for an Easter ceasefire in Ukraine
CEC and COMECE Presidents Rev. Christian Krieger and H.Em. Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich SJ, sent a letter addressed to the presidents of Russia and Ukraine Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday, 11 April, calling for an Easter ceasefire in Ukraine from midnight on 17 April until midnight on 24 April.

Polish churches receive training to ensure strong and safe communities
The Conference of European Churches (CEC) conducted a training for Polish churches in Warsaw, focusing on crisis management and ways of ensuring security for religious communities. The training was held as part of the Safer and Stronger Communities in Europe (SASCE), a European Commission-funded project, carried out by CEC and other European faith organisations.

CEC president regrets Ukraine war, highlights Christian gospel for peace
At the occasion of the 3rd European Catholic Social Days, the President of CEC Rev. Christian Krieger deeply regretted the war in Ukraine, saying “this time of the year dedicated for inner questioning, has been disrupted by the return to European soil the tragedy of war, traumas and devastating effects that we thought belonged to the past.”
